I apologize for the long silence. My baby became a toddler since the last time I wrote, and, somehow, my writing time has since evaporated. Instead, our days have been filled with parks and playing outside and keeping A from climbing to the top of every piece of furniture in the house. Oh, and teething (and, of course, the Olympic-level grumping that has been known to accompany teething). :)
But here I am now, and I have some exciting news! Amanda from Downs Ups & Teacups recently nominated me for a Liebster Award! Thank you, Amanda! I am so excited to share with you about the Liebster Award: what it is, how it works, and my own nominations for this award. So, without further ado: the Liebster Award!
What is it?
“The Liebster Award 2016 is an award given to bloggers by other bloggers. Liebster in German means sweetest, kindest, nicest, dearest, beloved, lovely, kind, pleasant, valued, cute, endearing, and welcome.”
I feel so honored to be nominated for this! And so blessed to pass the honor along.
How does it work?
The rules are pretty straight-forward. Once nominated, each nominee must:
Thank the person who nominated them in a post on their own blog
Answer the get-to-know-you questions asked by the blogger who nominated them
Nominate 5-11 of their favorite small blogs
Ask their 5-11 nominees 11 get-to-know-you questions of their choice
Notify their nominees via Social Media
Now for the get-to-know-me questions Amanda asked!
What motivates you?
My family, especially my husband and daughter are definite motivators in my life. Husband is a go-getter, and he’s good at so many varied things. Truly. From IT to cars to building and carpentry projects to home improvement and more, he can do it all. He has taught me what it means to be a life-long learner, and living life with him motivates me to learn and explore and try new things. Plus, I just really love them, and I want what’s best for them, and I want them to know how much I love them. That love is motivating. And, of course, my faith is a motivator. One day I’m going to stand (or, more likely, fall on my face because HOLINESS!) before the Creator of the universe, and I want to see Him smile and hear Him say, “Well done.”
Explain in detail your niche. If you weren’t writing in this niche, what would be your next choice?
Haha, my niche. My blog can’t really be classified by a single niche. I have too many passions and interests to keep it to one, so, in this space, you’ll find posts about trips and adventures we have, updates on my postpartum doula business, thoughts on life, love, faith, and anything I’m currently especially enjoying, and even a smattering of home-improvement projects, our gardening attempts, and recipes we try and like. You may even find examples of the children’s fiction I enjoy writing from time-to-time and what I learn about photography as I delve deeper into that area. My blog is a pretty accurate depictions of the fact that I’m the most indecisive person I know. :)
What is your favorite blog post you have written?
I think the posts that were the most fun to create are my Travel Tuesday posts. They’re neither deep nor particularly thought-provoking, but I love looking back at the pictures and reminiscing about our favorite spots. The ones we’ve already discovered, anyway.
If you weren’t a writer, what career would you choose?
Well, I’m also an RN, but, to be honest, I probably wouldn’t choose it these days. I would love to be a travel writer and photographer, and I’ve told my husband that when we’re empty-nesters many years from now, and he’s ready to retire, I’m going to go back to work as a travel writer, and we’re going to be globe-trotting nomads together. Ha!
How does your daily online routine look?
Honestly, I really need to develop an online routine. I really miss writing when I go so long without it, but my girl is such a snuggler! She wants to play and explore and help me with everything I do (not kidding! The words, “Hey, A, wanna help Momma with _________________” will immediately result in her running to whatever thing for which I requested her help. Experienced moms, how do I keep this up?!?!), and her daily nap is strictly for cuddling in her book. Despite my long to-do list that constantly beckons I know that one day I’ll look back on this stage and be thankful that I spent the time with my daughter. My girl is going to grow up, and I’ll miss these days, so I just want to make the most of my time with her. The to-do list will still be here when she’s too busy to hang out with Mom. That being said, though...I really do need to develop an online routine.
If it was movie night and you had to choose a movie, snack, and person to watch with you, what/who would you choose? (This can be anyone in the world!)
Am I completely lame for saying and genuinely meaning that there’s no one I’d rather watch movies with than Husband? We have so much fun together, and there’s honestly no one I’d choose over him. My favorite movie of all time is Remember the Titans, so that would be my movie choice, hands down. And my snack of choice (which is actually a meal) is pizza, a salad, and a lemon bar for dessert.
If impossible wasn’t an option, what would you do?
I could easily come up with about a hundred answers for this question. I’m a dreamer. But, my pet dream is to have a giant family and live a nomadic life traveling the world together.
If your life was a boardgame, what would it be and why?
Can I say a card game? Because the first one that popped into my head was Dutch Blitz. If you don’t know how to play, it looks and sounds like utter chaos, but, once you learn the game, you realize that we really do know what’s going on, and it’s so. much. fun.
What event has impacted your life the most?
I love how I can look back on my life and see how everything, even seemingly minute details, have all led me to my life today. Had I done even one thing differently, I’d most likely be in a completely different place than I am now. Because of how interconnected everything is from where I’m standing now I really cannot choose one single event that has had the biggest impact on my life. Nevertheless, becoming a wife and mother have definitely been huge events in my life.
If you could be a guest writer for any blog, what would you choose?
I would be honored to be a guest writer for pretty much anyone. Haha. But, if I could choose any blog, I would love to be an accomplished enough traveler to write for Travel and Leisure or any other big travel site.
What non-profit organization are you most passionate about and why?
Teamwork’s City of Hope! TCOH is an orphanage, school, and medical clinic in the bush of Tanzania, and I love how they have been such a positive presence for an entire village in East Africa. I could write all night about all the good TCOH has done and continues to do, but why don’t you check them out yourself! You won’t regret it!
In a nutshell, what do you want readers to know about your blog?
You can expect just about anything here (within reason). I hope it’s a space where people feel welcome, and I hope my readers know that they can reach out to me for any reason.
You should check each of these bloggers out! They each have unique blogs that cover a wide range of topics, and I love each one!
My questions to my nominees:

What is one thing you couldn’t go a day without?
